Cambridge University, founded in 1209, is consistently ranked as one of the best universities in the world. Study life is intense and intellectually demanding and Cambridge University place great emphasis on independent and self-directed learning.

The University of Cambridge is probably different to any educational establishment you have experienced. It is a confederation of Schools, Faculties, Departments and 31 autonomous Colleges and is often referred to as a collegiate University. Students live, eat and socialise in one of the University’s 31 Colleges which provide access to a multi-disciplinary and international community as well as pastoral and academic support. Colleges provide small group teaching for undergraduates to compliment University lectures, seminars and practical work.

A global community

The University of Cambridge is a diverse international community and welcomes talented students from around the world. There are currently more than 22000 students in total at the University with over 9000 international students representing over 140 different countries. Around 25% of undergraduate students and over 50% of graduate students are from outside the UK.

With over 120,000 overseas alumni in more than 200 countries, and in excess of 420 volunteer-led Alumni Groups in more than 90 countries, Cambridge University is believed to have the widest-reaching alumni network of any university in the world. The Development and Alumni Relations office offers an enticing programme of activities that enable alumni to network with each other and stay connected to Cambridge, including global events, international travel and an award-winnning magazine.
